Silence is a weapon. Alum knows how to use it.

Alum has been worked in the African American Hoodoo tradition for generations to shut mouths, stop gossip, silence enemies, and freeze the tongues of those who speak against you in court, at work, or in the street. It is one of the most direct and economical curios in the tradition. Its spiritual action mirrors its physical nature: it contracts, it tightens, it closes.

Write an enemy's name on a piece of paper, fold it around a piece of alum, and freeze it. Add it to court case workings to silence opposing witnesses and lawyers. Work it in combination with other silencing preparations to stop gossip at its source.

Historical Context: Alum appears in Hoodoo documentation across multiple sources including the works of Zora Neale Hurston and the Harry Middleton Hyatt interviews. A consistently documented mouth-shutting and court case curio in Southern conjure tradition. And i have always seen a small bottle of it in both my Grandmothers "don't touch that" cabinets.
