The most feared powder in the Hoodoo tradition. Handled with full knowledge and full responsibility.
Goofer Dust is one of the oldest and most serious enemy work preparations in African American Hoodoo, a condition powder formulated to bring sickness, confusion, crossed conditions, and lasting misfortune to a target. Its name derives from the Kikongo word kufwa, meaning to die, which speaks to both its African origins and the gravity with which it has always been treated in the tradition.
Goofer Dust is not worked carelessly. In the old tradition, practitioners who worked with it did so understanding the weight of what they were doing. It is used in the most serious cases, when someone has done genuine harm, when justice has failed, when all other means have been exhausted.
Historical Context: Documented in African American Hoodoo practice since the 19th century. Directly descended from Central African Kongo spiritual traditions brought to the American South during the transatlantic slave trade. One of the most historically significant enemy work preparations in the tradition.
Used For: Crossing enemies. Bringing confusion and misfortune. Serious enemy work.
