Saltpeter

When you need the fire to go cold, saltpeter is how you do it.

Saltpeter, potassium nitrate, has been worked in the African American Hoodoo tradition for taking the nature out of a man, cooling passion, breaking up relationships, and crossing romantic and sexual conditions. It is a cooling mineral with a specific and documented tradition of use in Southern conjure that dates back generations.

It is also worked in breaking up workings, dissolving relationships, ending engagements, and separating people who should not be together. Saltpeter cools what is burning and breaks what has been bound together inappropriately.

Historical Context: One of the most consistently referenced minerals in Harry Middleton Hyatt's Hoodoo documentation. Appears in Southern conjure practice as a love-breaking and cooling mineral throughout the 19th and 20th century tradition.
