The smoke that calls good things in. The scent the Ancextors recognize.
Sweetgrass is one of the most sacred plants in African American and Indigenous Southern tradition, braided and burned to call in good spirits, invite the Ancextors to the altar, and create an atmosphere of welcome, peace, and spiritual openness. Where other smoke clears what should not be there, sweetgrass calls in what should.
Sweetgrass braid burning is documented in African American spiritual practice particularly in the Gullah Geechee cultural corridor of the South Carolina and Georgia lowcountry, one of the most intact African cultural traditions in the United States. This is not appropriation. This is homecoming.
Used For: Calling good spirits. Ancextral invitation. Creating sacred space. Welcoming spiritual presence. Blessing after clearing.
How to Work It: Light the braid at one end and allow to smolder. Carry through your space after clearing with another smoke. Use on the Ancextral altar to invite presence before working. Extinguish by pressing the lit end against a fireproof surface. Each braid is reusable.
Single braid, approximately 18 inches. Ethically sourced.
